The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US against five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
