An extensive two-month voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an elderly lady who was left behind by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission found her body the next day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that guests and staff on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that passengers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" banning any further travelers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to join the expedition - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the vessel left the location after an planned excursion without my mother".

Through her comments, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"According to scant facts we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she stated.

She continued that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mother's existence".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mother took sick on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to go back, alone. Then the ship left, seemingly without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, mum died, by herself."

Operator Position

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "working closely with investigators to aid their investigation".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the relatives.

Shipping Sector Standards

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with 46 staff, according to company details. It was specifically designed to enter isolated areas of Australia's shoreline and is equipped with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry passengers on land visits.

Occurrences like this are uncommon, and liners have procedures to record which individuals are boarding or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard just isn't an option," a specialist commented.

Vessel operators consider these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to stop such incidents from happening," the expert continued.

"This is presumably a stunning - and unfortunate - one-off."
