The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like conventional biological terror, but within Together exists a deep examination about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The plot starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for her career. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s largely where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying horror experience, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and fully committing to another person, the allegory avoids being clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can undertake right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform at present.
